It is difficult to find in the annals of the Navy to sail a ship with so much diversity of activities such as years of service. Indeed, the U.S. Constellation started her career in 1798 and finished in 1955. Her missions were varied; from seizing vessels, preventing the annexation of the Hawaiian island by the British in 1843 or carrying food to Ireland during the great potato famine from 1845 to 1849. It was also the first American War Ship to visit China in 1842, and was finally designated a training ship in 1871. Today she makes dream for millions of tourists who visit her each year in Baltimore. If this frigate could talk, it would tell us much of American history.
